Save the Date!
The AAPT is thrilled to announce three-days of programming, “AAPT 2020: Anti-Racist and Pandemic Pedagogies,” free and exclusively for members. We hope that this exciting event will bring our community together to share recent experiences and support each other in preparing for our teaching in the fall.
Please save the dates of Wednesday, July 22, through Friday, July 24, 2020, when the AAPT will offer an expert panel and interactive, task-oriented workshops on each of two thematic tracks:
- Anti-Racist Pedagogy
- Pandemic Pedagogy
AAPT members will be able to participate in several ways:
- by tuning in to one or both of the two Zoom keynote panel discussions on Wednesday, July 22, 2020;
- by registering for and participating in a three-part small group workshop on either theme (1-2 hours on Zoom each day over the three-day period);
- by attending the final presentations on Friday, July 24, 2020, in which workshop members will share their pedagogical projects over Zoom;
- by visiting the AAPT website after the event to read about workshop participants’ work.
We are still actively seeking keynote panelists on both themes. If you have special expertise in either anti-racist or pandemic pedagogies, please respond to the appropriate call (https://philosophyteachers.org/files/CFP-Summer20-Anti-Racist-Pedagogy.pdf or https://philosophyteachers.org/files/CFP-Summer20-PandemicPedagogy.pdf) with a paragraph or two about your work. All keynote panelists will receive a modest honorarium, and keynote panelists new to the AAPT will receive a free membership.
The event is free for members of the AAPT. A more detailed schedule, along with registration information for AAPT members, will be posted on the AAPT website July 8, 2020. Please visit https://philosophyteachers.org for updates. (Becoming a member costs only $25-40 a year and comes with many additional benefits: https://www.pdcnet.org/aapt/American-Association-of-Philosophy-Teachers-(AAPT).)
We are looking forward to processing the last few months with all of the thoughtful and caring philosophers in the AAPT community, and we believe that everyone will walk away from “AAPT 2020: Anti-Racist and Pandemic Pedagogies” with something useful for their fall courses. Please feel free to contact AAPT Program Committee Chair Jane Drexler (jane.drexler@slcc.edu) with questions.
See you (virtually) in July!
