The American Association of Philosophy Teachers recognizes and encourages leadership and achievements in the teaching of philosophy as well as scholarship of the teaching and learning of philosophy.  The AAPT awards such leadership, scholarship, pedological innovation, and achievements in a number of ways:

AAPT Grants for Innovation in Teaching

Through this program, the AAPT is offering competitive small grants to support the implementation of projects involving innovations or modifications to one’s teaching. Grants are awarded biannually, in even years.

Prize for Excellence in Philosophy Teaching

The Prize for Excellence in Philosophy Teaching, sponsored by the American Philosophical Association (APA), the American Association of Philosophy Teachers (AAPT), and the Teaching Philosophy Association (TPA), recognizes a philosophy teacher who has had a profound impact on the student learning of philosophy in undergraduate and/or pre-college settings.

The Lenssen Prize

In 2000 the American Association of Philosophy Teachers established the Lenssen Prize for the best paper regarding the teaching of philosophy in honor of Mark Lenssen. The Lenssen Prize is offered for the best essay on the general theme of philosophy teaching that has appeared in the two calendar years before the AAPT biennial conference.

AAPT Award of Merit

Since 1990, the American Association of Philosophy Teachers has announced several recipients of their Award of Merit for Outstanding Leadership and Achievements in the Teaching of Philosophy.
