Call for Applicants: AAPT Early Career Symposium

Updated Application Deadline: May 10, 2026

The AAPT Early-Career Symposium is a new AAPT initiative that aims to bring together graduate student and early career instructors to think through, in the context of the AAPT Workshop-Conference, either (a) a current teaching challenge, or (b) an aspiration for improving or expanding your teaching (e.g. developing a new pedagogical approach or method, learning a pedagogical skill, implementing a new kind of assessment, etc.). Participants will attend the AAPT Workshop/Conference with a particular goal or challenge in mind. During the last presentation slot on the last day, participants will then give a presentation/talk on what they learned through the duration of Workshop/Conference.

More specifically, if accepted, participants will:

  1. Attend an orientation session the evening before the conference starts.
  2. Attend the AAPT Workshop/Conference sessions.
  3. Give a short presentation/talk during the last presentation slot on the Saturday of the workshop/conference on what they learned, and how they will address their chosen focal teaching challenge/aspiration.

Attendance: This is a face-to-face only experience, in conjunction with the 2026 AAPT Workshop-Conference. Participants are required to attend the full conference, including the orientation session, in advance of their presentation on the Saturday of the conference.

Fees & Waivers: The 2026 AAPT Early-Career Symposium does not provide funding to presenters at this time. This session will be listed on the program as a talk, which will hopefully allow participants to claim funding from their institution to support their attendance.
