CFP: Service-Learning session at Pacific APA
The APA Committee on the Teaching of Philosophy invites proposals for a session on Academic Service-Learning (ASL) at the Pacific Division meeting of the APA, March 27-31, 2013, in San Francisco, California. We are especially interested in presentations on how instructors have incorporated service learning into their philosophy courses, along with practical suggestions for how other instructors can use ASL in their courses.
Academic Service-Learning allows students to do work outside of the classroom so that they can continue their study of philosophy by applying what they are learning in non-academic settings. ASL is becoming increasingly important as philosophy students prepare for jobs outside of academia.
- Both individual submissions as well as joint proposals are welcome.
- Please send a title, an abstract of no more than 250 words, and your name, email, and academic affiliation (if applicable) to Dr. Matthew Altman (Central Washington University) at the following email address: altmanm@cwu.edu.
- Submissions should be in Word or PDF format.
- The deadline for submissions is September 15, 2012.
