CFA: Lenssen Prize Book
Call for Abstracts
The American Association of Philosophy Teachers Board of Directors has commissioned a book in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the biannual AAPT Workshop Conference. The book will include the five winners of the Lenssen Prize, multiple commentaries on each article, and authors’ reflections. The book will be published in cooperation with the Philosophy Documentation Center, which has granted the AAPT permission to reprint these articles free of charge, in July 2014 and co-edited by Emily Esch, Kevin Hermberg, and Rory Kraft.
We are now soliciting abstracts for commentaries on any of the five Lenssen Prize winners, each originally published in Teaching Philosophy:
- John Rudisill (2011) “The Transition from Studying Philosophy to Doing Philosophy“
- Daryl Close (2009) “Fair Grades”
- David Concepción (2004) “Reading Philosophy with Background Knowledge and Metacognition”
- James Campbell (2002) “The Ambivalence Toward Teaching In The Early Years Of The American Philosophical Association“
- Deborah Barnbaum (2001) “Teaching Empathy in Medical Ethics: The Use of ‘Lottery Assignments’”
More information about the Lenssen Prize can be found on the AAPT website.
Commentaries should be up 2000 words and address a single article.
Submissions: Abstracts of up to 500 words should be sent to LenssenBook@philosophyteachers.org by June 15.
Authors of selected abstracts will be notified by July 1 and full commentaries will be due September 1.
Deadline for abstracts: June 15, 2013
