CFA: AAPT Communications Director


The American Association of Philosophy Teachers
is seeking applications for its
next Communications Director.

The Communications Director of the AAPT is a time-intensive commitment, being responsible for maintaining the public image of the AAPT, which includes the direction and maintenance of the AAPT’s website. The Communications Director maintains the AAPT listserv, sends announcements to members, oversees the social media outreach of the AAPT, and serves as a member of the AAPT Board of Directors’ Executive Committee. The Communications Director composes various announcements, calls for applicants, flyers, and formats them for distribution to the philosophy community. Finally, the Communications Director serves on the Editorial Board of American Association of Philosophy Teachers Studies in Pedagogy, an annual journal published by the AAPT.

Qualifications for the position include:

  • Experience as a college-level instructor of philosophy
  • Commitment to the mission of the AAPT
  • Highly developed organizational skills
  • Experience with website design and maintenance
  • Experience with social media
  • Experience with graphic design, marketing, or public relations.

The term of the Communications Director begins when the position is filled and runs through the end of 2023.

The AAPT is the leading national organization dedicated to supporting and improving philosophy teaching at all levels of higher educations. It sponsors sessions at divisional APA meetings, runs a four day conference every other summer, publishes a journal, organizes pedagogy workshops for graduate students, and underwrites projects supporting innovative philosophy pedagogy among other activities. The Communications Director plays a crucial role in publicizing the work of the AAPT and bringing new members into the organization.
